Learn About the Land & Indigenous Communities

New York University is located in Lenapehoking, the ancestral homeland of the Lenape people. Learning about the Lenape people and their continuing presence is an important part of understanding the history of New York City and the land on which our community lives and learns. We encourage everyone in our community to learn about the history, cultures, and contemporary experiences of Native and Indigenous peoples and to engage with resources that support Indigenous students and communities.

Connect with the NYU Community

There are several groups and resources throughout NYU that support Native American and Indigenous students and provide opportunities to learn, connect, and engage with Indigenous communities:

  • Native American and Indigenous Students Group (NAISG) – A student organization that builds community among Native American and Indigenous students and raises awareness of Native and Indigenous histories, cultures, and issues at NYU. To sign up for the NAISG listserv: If you are part of the NYU community, browse for the Native Network through OrgSync.

  • Center CIRCL – An institutional home base to grow the practice, theory, and reach of Indigenous Studies and Indigenous research at NYU and beyond.
